Sad Day

It was a sad day all around. First we woke up to Katrina the Clucking hen dead. We kind of expected it, she was looking a little peaked the day before. Then that evening when Payton went to lock the chickens up for the night, Dots was missing (that's her in the pic). Oh, the tears. Again something snatched one up during the day without us seeing or hearing anything. My suspicion is a hawk or eagle. Although I did see a fox cross the road a couple weeks ago a couple hundred feet from our house, either way it is very traumatizing to poor Payton. We're down to 6 chickens now and for the first time in months actually don't have enough eggs. We're going to check Sunday at the fair to see if there are any hens for sale and pick a couple up.
I went to a wake for a young man whom I knew from Trollhaugen. He was only 21 years old and died tragically in front of friends. They were drinking and farting around in a car and it rolled, crushing Chris. Its a silly stunt that has been pulled by countless young kids, unfortunately this time the result was tragic. Its always sad when a young, vibrant life is taken too soon. I hope his friends will take a lesson from his death so that he will not have died in vain.
