Panic Camp Call!

Runty the day after.
It is the last day of MS Camp and I am slowly getting all my stuff rounded up when I get a call from the kids. My heart sinks when I answer and I immediately hear the tears in Payton's voice. Oh crap, what happened?? I am several hours away from being ready to leave and a good 2 hours from home. After calming my poor little girl down I get the story. First off no one is dead...yet. Poor little Runty kitty was outside for a few minutes frolicking around when suddenly the kids watched as she limped her bloody body to the door. Uh Oh. According to the kids her leg appeared to be broken and her face seemed a little smashed with blood running from her eye and mouth. Poor Runty. My heart just ached for not only my hurting kitty but for my poor kids who were desperately trying to keep it together. What to do? What to say? Well depending on how you look at it fortunately or unfortunately we have had enough of these situations that the kids had already done what was needed. Box was found to put her in, towels lined the box and she was put in a quiet room. Only thing I could add was a heating pad set on warm under those towels. I also knew that no one would rest until this kitty found her way to the vet. Luckily for cell phones. Grandma and Grandpa were gotten ahold of and when they heard the voice of their distressed granddaughter they dropped their Menards items and headed home. Once again the docs at Centuria Interstate Vet Clinic came to the rescue. Doc. Springer said her injuries were more than likely caused by being run over by a car. Her front leg was indeed broken as was her jaw and her head was a little smooshed too. Good thing cats have 9 lives. According to the Doc cats love to heal. Stick two cat bones in a room on opposite sides and somehow they will fuse together. All she needed to do was make it thru the shock. I am happy to report she did. I made my way home the next day and brought her home. Her outlook is good. However she needs to spend 6 weeks in a cage. That should be fun.

~UPDATE on Dec. 7th, 2011

I am happy to report Miss Runty healed up nicely. Her jaw went back into place, although she did lose a few teeth in order for that to happen. Her leg healed perfectly and her eye looks normal although it is usually a little watery. She did make it about 1 week in her cage before she drove us insane. Luckily nothing bad happened and I don't have to lower my head in shame everytime I walk into the vet office. She is very wild and entertains us every morning with her crazy antics. Very glad this one had a happy ending...smile.
